Have you been looking for some legitimate business you can start from your home? What does it take to start a successful business right from home?
As I sit to write this post, I am reminded of the years I spent in jobs that I didn’t like and am now so thankful that I get to work from home doing something I love. With the economy being what it is, layoffs all around the corner. You must have been reading the news about banks sacking their staffs. This has prompted so many to start looking for alternative to start working from home.
Personally while in school, I never planned to work for any company all my life. Fortunately, I did not even get the job I wanted. So while working as a teacher in one secondary school in my area, I was testing different home business since I do close my 3:00 pm.
Here are 5 business ideas that you can start from home without any money. Yes! It does not require any investment capital.
1. Freelance Writing
How would I not have mentioned this one? Becoming a freelance writer do not need any capital to start.
I personally started my freelance writing business with nothing but a pen, paper, Android phone, and the internet and I grew it into a 5 figure business over the years. But starting a freelance writing business is not as easy as it seems. You have to be ready to approach blog admins and pitch your writing experience to them.
For starters, the best way to build your writing portfolio to easily get hired by clients is through guest posting on top blogs with large audiences so that you can have samples to show whosoever want to hire you and make sure you promote that guest post so you get comments. Most clients want posts that are engaging and get shared.

2. Home Tutor
Do you love teaching? Teaching is one business (I took mine as a business, not job) that I do advice for part time online business owners who are still growing their business. This is because it allows them time to work on their part-time business. Most schools close by 4:00 pm compared to normal jobs that close 5 pm and you get home by 6 pm.
There are so many opportunities in home tutor business. You can teach someone who is about writing a national examination and charge more than normal teaching. Home tutoring is one home based business that is a gold mine if you can market yourself to parent very well. I can remember charging N20,000 monthly for home lecture for 2 hours. Just two hours, three times a week and you have the rest hours for growing your side business. I really made big money from this business because I was taking two different students.
You can also print fliers and stick them to walls with your contact and subjects that you teach. Your clients are not far from you. Some of your church members have children who might not be doing well in class and these parents may have even hired a private tutor from outside. Won’t it be great if you are the one?
3. Talent Business
Do you have a special gift that you can teach someone? It’s called talent trading. There is a saying that he who pays the Piper calls the tune. And that’s true. But the Piper can decide how much he will charge for playing that tune if what he plays is in demand, rare and particularly difficult or unique in some way.
Once you can do something no one else can do, or as few people as is possible, you can pretty well name your price. And believe me, it doesn’t have to be a particular difficult skill, just one that somebody else wants and will pay for.
What are your skills, your talents your strength and weakness? Who needs those skills? How could you put them to best use? How do you tell the people who need these skills that you have them? What skill might you be able to master in order to meet a need that’s out there waiting to be met?
4. Create an Online Course
Have you learned something that you know will be valuable to others? That could be your road map to running your very own online course academy. You can run an online course on web design, information marketing, business coaching, how to play the piano, how to write an e-book etc. Online entrepreneurs today are making millions just from selling and running an online course from home.
5. Blog or Web designing
I am a writer, not a tech guy, I tried working on designing this blog myself and ended up exhausting my internet data with no improvement on the blog. I had no choice but to look for someone who is good at WordPress designing to help fix and customize this theme. My avatar linking movie is a story for another day. I have to pay the guy to work on everything that does not do with writing. So, can you learn web or blog design? Most people like me can’t customize a blog even with 100 plugins. Which means there is a huge market for web designers. I know people who are making six figures from web design and creation.
